Consumer Awareness Guide
The consumer’s greatest concerns are:
- Who is coming to your home or business?
- Are they honest and reputable?
- And above all, are they capable of fixing your problem?
The law states that no unlicensed person can work by themselves without supervision.
Drain cleaning companies do not have to carry a plumbing license, so beware if they offer plumbing services! Ask for their license! If they show you a license, check the name to make sure it's the person doing the work, and not someone else’s license, and it should state P-1 or P-2.
Things to look for in a good plumbing company:
- How quickly do they return your phone call?
- Did they put their name and license on their vehicle?
- By law, licenses have to be on them.
- Is the vehicle presentable or is it questionable?
- Do they wear uniforms or appear shabby?
To become a Master Plumber under Connecticut State Law, one must first register as an apprentice with a licensed plumber. This is a four year process which includes 800 hours of night schooling.
After completing this course and passing the exam, a P-2 license is awarded, enabling the plumber to work independently. To obtain a Master License, P-1, an additional 2 years and another state examination are required. Only then can registration as a Full Plumbing Contractor be made.
The same requirements must be satisfied for a Heating Contractor License.
